Poppin’ Piano is a piano solo series written by Canadian composers in a broad range of styles, metres, keys and tempi with appealing titles for all ages. Poppin’ Piano provides teachers and students with ideal pedagogical material, as well as recital, festival, examination and recreational repertoire.

  • CÔTÉ, David

    David Côté, with a Masters degree from the Université de Montréal in piano performance, has had music on CBC radio and is now Manager-Director of Co-op Vincent d’Indy and is President of the Quebec Music Teachers Association. He teaches, adjudicates, and composes music for piano.

  • FAIRBANK, Nicholas

    Nicholas Fairbank was born in New Westminster, British Columbia. He studied music in England and France before completing his Masters in Music Composition from the University of Victoria. Fairbank has compositions for piano, pipe organ, voice, orchestra, choir, and chamber groups.

  • FROESE, Wes

    Wes Froese is a composer, performer and music educator in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He studied at theUniversity of Regina with Bill Moore, and at the University of Saskatchewan with Robin Harrison. He also spent a year studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. Wes is the former director of music at Horizon College and Seminary; artistic director of Eclipse Chorus, a Saskatoon community choir; and author of the educational series Starting With Blues. His piano compositions can be found in CNCM Northern Lights collections, and in both volumes of Saskatchewan Registered Music Teacher’s From Prairie to Pine.Wes’s compositions span a wide variety of styles. Contemporary harmonies, driving rhythms and reflective melodies permeate his music. A thorough knowledge of the blues/jazz genres coupled with an appreciation of what students enjoy playing make his music very popular with students of all ages. At present, Wes operates a private piano studio in Saskatoon, specializing in training musicians to play by ear, read charts, improvise and compose. He adjudicates for music festivals in western Canada. He also works in long-term care as a recreation coordinator, providing music for residents. Wes created and leads the workshop Giving Voice to the Leader in You which presents principles of leadership through the experience of singing in a choir. A recent endeavor is the creation of a jazz trio with two musical friends; an experience he highly recommends to anyone. The trio goes by the name of ‘Frozen Cod’.

  • GIBSON, Angelina

    Angelina Gibson, sharing a passion for music education with her husband, Kevin Gibson, runs a music studio for piano and theory. Gibson researches and composes music with an emphasis on teaching students improvisation on the piano.

    Kevin Gibson, sharing a passion for music education with his wife Angelina Gibson, runs a music studio for piano and theory. He holds a Masters Degree in Music Composition and has composed a variety of works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, choir, and piano.

  • GODDEN WALDNER, Heather

    Studying with Dr. Lyell Gustin in Saskatoon, Heather Godden Waldner received her Associate from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto and her Licentiate from Trinity College of Music, London, England. Heather is a Registered Music Teacher, an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, a festival adjudicator and workshop clinician. Under the name of Heather Godden Laliberte she has composed and published a number of works for piano and voice through Godden Publications and most recently has composed a Concert Etude, “Lakeside” for Concert Band. Ms Waldner has led workshops on the Art of Practising,Examination & Festival Preparation and numerous theory topics. She currently resides in Warman, SK, where she teaches piano, trombone, and all levels and subjects of music theory, and plays trombone in the Saskatoon Concert Band and the 'Toon Town Big Band.

  • HARBRIDGE, Andrew

    Andrew Harbridge teaches piano, theory, and music history from his music studio in Ontario, Canada. He has been the music director, organist, and pianist at several churches. Harbridge has written many pieces for piano and for the teaching of piano technique.

  • SNOWDON, Judith

    Judith Snowdon was born in England and moved to Canada at the age of six. She has lived in several provinces in Canada. She is the recipient of ARCTs from The Royal Conservatory of Music in both Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy.  She completed her formal composition studies at Canadian Mennonite University (Bachelor of Church Music) and the University of Winnipeg (Gold Medalist – Bachelor of Arts, Music).  An award winning composer and accomplished church musician, Judith has also teaches piano and works at St. John the Baptist Church as Music Director. Judith has many published choral pieces, hymns, and piano pieces. She currently lives near the ocean in Bouctouche, New Brunswick with her husband, Thomas.

  • TYRRELL, Sheila

    Sheila Tyrrell, now retired from teaching piano and voice lessons, conducted choirs and was the organist and director of music for many churches in Ontario. She has composed pieces for a variety of purposes, such as piano, guitar, voice, and choirs.

  • VERDONK, EMMA THERESA

    Emma Theresa Verdonk is a composer and music educator from Brantford, ON who holds her B.Mus. in Community Music (‘20) from Wilfrid Laurier University and her M.Mus in Composition from Western University (’22). She has written music for the Rose Orchestra, the Penderecki String Quartet, Arcady Ensemble, Exultate Chamber Singers, the Odin Quartet, and various chamber ensembles. In May 2022, she released her first album, a collection of piano solos entitled Reflections. Emma is also the author of a series of theory books entitled Explore Music Theory, which are meant to make music theory fun and accessible for students of all learning types.

  • WANLESS, Debra

    Debra Wanless, from Ontario, Canada, is a piano teacher, examiner, and composer. She began the music publishing company, Debra Wanless Music, with music from numerous composers and her own works, which instruct and aid students in their music education and piano playing.

  • WARKENTIN, Julianne

    Julianne Warkentin, from Manitoba, Canada is a composer, piano teacher, adjudicator, performer and has led compositional workshops. Her compositions are inspired by her love of nature, animals, children and family. She enjoys teaching students of all ages to compose.
