Poppin’ Piano is a piano solo series written by Canadian composers in a broad range of styles, metres, keys and tempi with appealing titles for all ages. Poppin’ Piano provides teachers and students with ideal pedagogical material, as well as recital, festival, examination and recreational repertoire.

Prep Level

The Poppin’ Piano series Prep Level of 25 solos includes entrance level works progressing to more advanced pieces in preparation for the next stage of learning.

  • CÔTÉ, David

    David Côté, with a Masters degree from the Université de Montréal in piano performance, has had music on CBC radio and is now Manager-Director of Co-op Vincent d’Indy and is President of the Quebec Music Teachers Association. He teaches, adjudicates, and composes music for piano.

  • FAIRBANK, Nicholas

    Nicholas Fairbank was born in New Westminster, British Columbia. He studied music in England and France before completing his Masters in Music Composition from the University of Victoria. Fairbank has compositions for piano, pipe organ, voice, orchestra, choir, and chamber groups.

  • FREEMAN, Judy

    Judy Freeman (b1962) Parry Sound, ON.  Judy enjoys introducing music to students of all ages in both group and individual settings.  She is a teacher, choir director, mentor and has recently begun composing for her students. Her passion for youth and creating exceptional learning environments is the backdrop for providing leadership to her local co-op, consulting with teachers and music centres across Canada and teaching her students.

  • FROESE, Wes

    Wes Froese is a composer, performer and music educator in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Wes’s compositions span a wide variety of styles. Contemporary harmonies, driving rhythms and reflective melodies permeate his music. A thorough knowledge of the blues/jazz genres coupled with an appreciation of what students enjoy playing make his music very popular with students of all ages.

  • GIBSON, Angelina

    Angelina Gibson, sharing a passion for music education with her husband, Kevin Gibson, runs a music studio for piano and theory. Gibson researches and composes music with an emphasis on teaching students improvisation on the piano.

  • GIBSON, Kevin

    Kevin Gibson, sharing a passion for music education with his wife Angelina Gibson, runs a music studio for piano and theory. He holds a Masters Degree in Music Composition and has composed a variety of works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, choir, and piano.

  • GODDEN WALDNER, Heather

    Heather is a Registered Music Teacher, an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, a festival adjudicator and workshop clinician. Under the name of Heather Godden Laliberte, she has composed and published a number of works for piano and voice through Godden Publications. She currently resides in Warman, SK, where she teaches piano, trombone, and music theory, and plays trombone in the Saskatoon Concert Band and the 'Toon Town Big Band.

  • HARBRIDGE, Andrew

    Andrew Harbridge teaches piano, theory, and music history from his music studio in Ontario, Canada. He has been the music director, organist, and pianist at several churches. Harbridge has written many pieces for piano and for the teaching of piano technique.

  • KNELMAN, Kevin

    Kevin (Brampton) is a composer, guitarist, and writer. He doesn’t play the piano. Often he creates his best melodies in his head at inopportune moments, such as the middle of the night. He tends to drift off into a new composition just as he is suppose to be returning serve in tennis. His hobbies include drumming out rhythmic patterns to the sound of the turn signal in his electric car, and singing a new lyric each morning to greet his kitty cat.

  • SNOWDON, Judith

    Judith Snowdon was born in England and moved to Canada at the age of six. An award winning composer and accomplished church musician, Judith has also teaches piano and works at St. John the Baptist Church as Music Director. Judith has many published choral pieces, hymns, and piano pieces. She currently lives near the ocean in Bouctouche, New Brunswick with her husband, Thomas.

  • SAWATSKY, Lynette

    Lynette Sawatsky, from Saskatchewan, Canada, has been involved in music from a young age. She has taught lessons, led workshops, and composed music. Sawatsky’s compositions are often written to communicate emotions and to engage young learners of music in meaningful ways. 

  • TYRRELL, Sheila

    Sheila Tyrrell, now retired from teaching piano and voice lessons, conducted choirs and was the organist and director of music for many churches in Ontario. She has composed pieces for a variety of purposes, such as piano, guitar, voice, and choirs.

  • VERDONK, Emma Theresa

    Emma Theresa Verdonk, from Brantford, ON, has written music for the Rose Orchestra, the Penderecki String Quartet, Arcady Ensemble, Exultate Chamber Singers, the Odin Quartet, and various chamber ensembles. In May 2022, she released her first album, a collection of piano solos entitled Reflections. Emma is also the author of a series of theory books entitled Explore Music Theory, which are meant to make music theory fun and accessible for students of all learning types. 

  • WANLESS, Debra

    Debra Wanless, from Ontario, Canada, is a piano teacher, examiner, and composer. She began the music publishing company, Debra Wanless Music, with music from numerous composers and her own works, which instruct and aid students in their music education and piano playing.

  • WARKENTIN, Julianne

    Julianne Warkentin, from Manitoba, Canada is a composer, piano teacher, adjudicator, performer and has led compositional workshops. Her compositions are inspired by her love of nature, animals, children and family. She enjoys teaching students of all ages to compose.
